Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Never forget slavery is legal under the American Constitution and serves as an incentive to put people in jail and keep them there.
Really no surprise the good ol' US of A is ranked #1 in the world for highest percent of people incarcerated per 100,000 - sitting at 655 per 100,000. Compare that to say the UK, with 140 per 100,000, or Australia with 172 per 100,000, or even Canada at 114 per 100,000.
Pretty ironic the "land of the free" has on average 600% more incarcerated citizens than comparable nations.
